Tsunoda Responds to Red Bull Decision: Struggling to Accept F1 Exit

Yuki Tsunoda has expressed his emotional response to being dropped from the Formula 1 grid for the 2026 season. The news, which came shortly after the Qatar Grand Prix, marks a significant change in his career trajectory.

Tsunoda’s Reaction to Red Bull Decision

In an official announcement, Red Bull confirmed that Isack Hadjar would replace Tsunoda next season. Meanwhile, F2 driver Arvid Lindblad will partner Liam Lawson in the Racing Bulls team. Tsunoda, now relegated to a test and reserve role, reflects on his situation as he prepares to exit the F1 circuit after five years.

Disappointment After Qatar Grand Prix

Tsunoda learned of his demotion shortly after the race in Qatar, admitting that it was a tough pill to swallow. “I was disappointed. It’s tough,” he stated. Despite the sudden change, he noted that he didn’t fully process the impact of this decision immediately.

Performance Challenges

Tsunoda’s struggles in the lead-up to his exit contributed to his position. After starting 2025 with Racing Bulls, he was promoted to the Red Bull team. However, his time there was marked by early qualifying exits and underwhelming finishes, often far behind teammate Max Verstappen.

“I’m missing the Racing Bulls car, which part of the car I developed since the regulations started,” Tsunoda remarked, sharing his feelings of attachment to the vehicle. He recognized the support he received from his team, even if his performances didn’t always reflect it.

Looking Towards the Future

As Tsunoda transitions to a test and reserve role, he remains focused on maximizing his efforts at the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He believes that this new chapter will allow him to gain fresh insights within both Red Bull and Racing Bulls.

  • Tsunoda acknowledges he will miss the thrill of racing.
  • He emphasized his need to remain positive and proactive about future opportunities.
  • While considering alternatives like IndyCar, he stated, “F1 is my life.”

Tsunoda intends to concentrate solely on the upcoming race and will let his manager handle any considerations about his future. His commitment to Formula 1 remains steadfast as he prepares for the next race and the challenges ahead.
