LSU Coach Matt McMahon Updates on Forward Jalen Reed’s Status

LSU basketball coach Matt McMahon provided an update on Jalen Reed’s status following his recent injury. Reed, a redshirt junior forward, suffered a serious left Achilles tendon injury during the Emerald Coast Classic against Drake.

Injury Details and Surgery

The injury occurred in the second half of the game held in Niceville, Florida. Following the incident, Reed underwent successful surgery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Coach McMahon expressed deep disappointment for Reed, stating the team is heartbroken but admires his resilience and leadership qualities.

Jalen Reed’s Contributions

Before the injury, Reed made significant contributions to the team. In his first six games of the season, he averaged:

  • 18 minutes per game
  • 9.5 points per game
  • 5.7 rebounds per game
  • 57.1% shooting efficiency (20-of-35 from the field)

His impact as a team captain and soon-to-be LSU graduate has been invaluable. McMahon noted that Reed’s journey has inspired everyone in the program.

Upcoming Games

The LSU Tigers are scheduled to face Boston College on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. CT as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge at the Conte Forum. The team will continue to support Reed as he begins his recovery process.
