Kansas State University (KSU) is poised for a significant change in its football program as Chris Klieman prepares to retire. His successor, Collin Klein, has been appointed as the new head coach of the KSU football team. The announcement is anticipated to occur within the week, marking a crucial transition for the Wildcats.
Coaching Transition at KSU
Chris Klieman, who recently concluded his seventh season as head coach, registered a record of 54 wins and 37 losses during his tenure. Under Klieman, KSU achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the Big 12 Championship in 2022. This season, the Wildcats finished with a 6-6 record and are anticipated to compete in a bowl game, the details of which are yet to be determined.
Klieman’s Legacy
Klieman, 58, has a storied coaching career. Before K-State, he had significant success at North Dakota State, where he led the team to four national titles within just five seasons.
Collin Klein: A New Era for KSU Football
Collin Klein, at just 36 years old, takes the reins as head coach. He has served as the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M for the past two seasons. Prior to his role at Texas A&M, Klein worked under Klieman as the offensive coordinator at KSU.
Klein is a celebrated figure in K-State history. He was the starting quarterback for the Wildcats and led the team to a Big 12 title in 2012. That season, Klein finished as a runner-up for the prestigious Heisman Trophy and is now honored in the Ring of Honor at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Upcoming Announcements
An early signing day press conference is scheduled for today at 11 a.m., where more details regarding Klein’s appointment and the future of the KSU football program are expected to be shared.
