ESA Seeks Participants for Space Research Studies

The European Space Agency (ESA) is calling for participants in two upcoming space research studies, offering a remarkable incentive of €23,000 for involvement. However, the criteria for participation are rigorous.
ESA’s Space Research Studies
Participants will engage in research that aims to support astronaut readiness for long-term missions.
Study One: Life in a Simulated Space Station
The first study will take place in a controlled environment at a laboratory in Cologne. Six participants will live in a mock space station, isolated from the outside world. They will adhere to a strict daily routine that includes:
- Collaborative work on tasks
- Exercise regimens
- Maintenance of the facility
The project seeks to simulate real astronaut conditions. Participants must be aged 25 to 55, possess a solid command of the English language, and maintain peak physical fitness. Additionally, a university degree is required.
Study Two: Investigating the Effects of Bed Rest
The second study will focus on the physical impacts of weightlessness through a unique 60-day bed rest experiment. Participants will rest in beds angled six degrees downward at the head, mimicking fluid shifts experienced in microgravity.
This study aims to explore countermeasures against the adverse effects of prolonged weightlessness on the human body.
Application Process and Eligibility
Prospective participants interested in ESA’s space research studies should be prepared to meet all outlined criteria. Further details and application procedures can be found on the official El-Balad platform.
