Canadians to Witness 2025’s Final Supermoon: The Cold Moon

Canadians are set to witness the last supermoon of 2025, known as “The Cold Moon.” This celestial event will occur on December 4, peaking at 6:14 PM EST. It is the final supermoon of three that have appeared this fall and will not return until November 2026.
What is a Supermoon?
Supermoons happen when a full moon coincides with perigee, the point in the moon’s orbit where it is closest to Earth. As a result, the moon can appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than during a typical full moon.
Why is it Called the Cold Moon?
December’s full moon is traditionally referred to as the “Cold Moon.” This name, attributed to the Mohawk people, signifies the onset of cold temperatures. Additionally, in Mohican culture, it is called the Long Night Moon, reflecting the darker evenings as winter solstice approaches.
