Oregon Ducks Announce New Offensive Coordinator Hiring

The Oregon Ducks are currently searching for a new offensive coordinator after Will Stein accepted the head coaching position at the Kentucky Wildcats. This move marks yet another coaching change for head coach Dan Lanning, who has successfully navigated the hiring process in previous years.
Will Stein’s Departure
Stein, who hails from Kentucky, played a significant role in developing the Ducks’ offensive prowess. Under his guidance, quarterbacks Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel were recognized as Heisman Trophy finalists. During his tenure, the Ducks’ offense showcased versatility and resilience, even amid injuries to key players.
Candidates to Replace Will Stein
As Lanning embarks on this important hiring decision, several candidates have emerged to potentially fill the offensive coordinator role:
- Ra’Shaad Samples – Currently the running backs coach for the Ducks, Samples is recognized as a promising young coach. Although he lacks play-calling experience, Lanning has shown confidence in his abilities.
- Kirby Moore – The offensive coordinator at Missouri, Moore has a strong background in player development and aggressive coaching. He successfully helped develop standout players like Brady Cook and Luther Burden III.
- Buster Faulkner – As the offensive coordinator for Georgia Tech, Faulkner has overseen a scoring offense ranked 31st nationally. His previous connection with Lanning during their time at Georgia adds to his candidacy.
- Mack Leftwich – The Texas Tech offensive coordinator has led a highly productive offense, achieving impressive national rankings in total offense, scoring offense, and passing offense.
- Jordan Davis – The offensive coordinator for North Texas, Davis has orchestrated the top scoring and total offense in the nation. With the head coach departure at North Texas, he may seek new opportunities.
- Drew Mehringer – Currently serving as the co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Oregon, Mehringer has been influential in evolving the Ducks’ offense since 2021.
- Jake Spavital – As the offensive coordinator at Baylor, Spavital has extensive experience in quarterback development and play-calling, making him a strong candidate.
- Jerry Neuheisel – UCLA’s offensive coordinator has gained recognition after a successful interim stint, leading to notable victories, including an upset against Penn State.
As the search for the next offensive coordinator unfolds, it remains to be seen who will step up to take the reins of the Oregon Ducks offense.
