Former Bulldogs Gear Up for Selland Arena Return

Bulldog Basketball is set to return to Selland Arena in Downtown Fresno. This marks the Fresno State Men’s Basketball team’s first game at the arena since 2009. Selland Arena has a storied history, serving as the Bulldogs’ home for 37 years, from 1966 to 2003.
Historical Significance of Selland Arena
Selland Arena is where legendary coach Jerry Tarkanian influenced countless young athletes. Former Bulldog player Damon Jackson recalls that every game he played there was sold out. “It was hard to get tickets. All the fans loved to come to the games,” Jackson said.
Jackson’s last game at Selland was in 2003, where he scored 28 points against Nevada, securing the Western Athletic Conference title for the Bulldogs. He expressed his excitement about returning, hoping for a win in the old arena.
Community Involvement and Support
Head coach Vance Walberg believes connecting current players with the arena’s history will motivate them. “It’s great for these guys to understand the history and the players that have played here,” he said.
Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer is committed to ensuring a successful event, announcing transport plans for fans. “We’ll be providing three trolleys to run routes from Campus Pointe to the brewery district and Selland Arena every 15 minutes,” he stated.
Pregame Festivities
Before the game, fans are encouraged to join a pregame event at Tioga Sequoia Brewery in the brewery district. The mayor emphasized that this game contributes to the revitalization of Downtown Fresno, enhancing local excitement for Bulldog basketball.
