Joe Burrow Rejoins Active Roster for Upcoming Return
The Cincinnati Bengals have officially welcomed back quarterback Joe Burrow to their active roster. This announcement comes just ahead of their scheduled game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.
Burrow’s Injury and Comeback Timeline
Burrow had been sidelined since Week 2 due to a turf toe injury incurred during a match against the Jacksonville Jaguars. His recovery led him to be placed on injured reserve, but he was designated for return on November 10. The Bengals needed to activate him from the injured list before a 21-day window closed on December 1, or he would have missed the entire season.
Preparation for the Game
Although returning was always the expectation, Burrow took the time to prepare thoroughly. He emphasized the importance of this game. “It’s a national stage to go out and prove yourself again,” he stated during a press conference. Burrow also expressed gratitude for the support he received during his recovery.
Initially, Burrow faced a recovery timeline of 12 weeks following surgery on the toe. However, he showed determination and aimed to return in time for the Week 12 match against the New England Patriots. Last week, he was a full participant in practice, but head coach Zac Taylor made the decision to start Joe Flacco to ensure Burrow had adequate recovery time.
Team Adjustments
In light of Burrow’s return, the Bengals made roster adjustments. They waived Sean Clifford, who had served as the emergency third-string quarterback during Flacco’s injury. Clifford has since cleared waivers and returned to the practice squad.
- Burrow’s role: Starting Quarterback
- Flacco: Backup Quarterback
- Browning: Reserve Quarterback on the 53-player roster
Playoff Chances
The Bengals, currently sitting at 3-8, have experienced a tough season with four consecutive losses. According to ESPN Analytics, they have just a 1% chance of making the playoffs this year. Nonetheless, Burrow’s return brings a renewed sense of hope to the team and its fans.
