Lakers Dismiss Ayton, Secure Timme with Two-Way Contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have made a significant move in their roster as they prepare for the absence of starting center Deandre Ayton. Following an injury that left Ayton sidelined with a right knee contusion, the Lakers have signed Drew Timme to a two-way contract.
Lakers Sign Drew Timme Amid Ayton’s Injury
Deandre Ayton, who suffered the knee injury during a recent game against the Utah Jazz, will miss the upcoming match against the LA Clippers. This development prompted the Lakers to secure the 6-foot-10 Timme, whose agents, Deddrick Faison and Rich Gray, confirmed the signing.
Timme’s Performance and Background
Drew Timme has shown impressive performance this season, averaging 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists with the South Bay Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate. His standout abilities were particularly noted during practice sessions, even when star player LeBron James participated in the G League.
Timme previously signed with the Brooklyn Nets after a stint with the G League’s Stockton Kings, where he averaged 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists over nine games. Notably, he was a two-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year and Gonzaga’s all-time leading scorer, amassing 2,307 points during his college career.
Roster Changes Leading to Timme’s Inclusion
To make room for Timme on the roster, the Lakers waived center Christian Koloko. This decision highlights the team’s strategy to adapt quickly in the face of Ayton’s expected absence and to bolster their frontcourt options.
