Investor James Fishback Announces Run for Florida Governor Backing DeSantis

Investor and CEO James Fishback has declared his candidacy for the governorship of Florida. His announcement was made on Monday through a post on social media platform X. Fishback aims to succeed current Governor Ron DeSantis in the upcoming elections.
James Fishback’s Campaign Goals
In his announcement, Fishback emphasized a commitment to making life more affordable for Floridians. He outlined key issues he intends to address:
- Ending the H-1B visa program, which he describes as a “scam.”
- Preventing investment firms, like Blackstone, from purchasing homes in Florida.
- Cancelling AI data centers that he believes may threaten local communities.
- Abolishing property taxes to ease the financial burden on families.
Primary Election Details
Fishback will compete in the Republican primary alongside Congressman Byron Donalds, who has received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. Despite this, Fishback has publicly praised DeSantis’s tenure, stating his intention to build upon the governor’s accomplishments.
Fishback criticized Donalds, arguing that his experience does not align with the needs of Florida. “Congressman Byron Donalds can’t be our next governor because he won’t fight for Florida like Ron DeSantis has,” Fishback asserted in his video announcement.
Current Status of Endorsements
As of now, Governor Ron DeSantis has not provided an endorsement for any candidate in the race. This leaves the field open as the primary election approaches.
The Florida gubernatorial primary is scheduled for August 18, 2026, as confirmed by the Florida Department of State. With this timeline, candidates will have ample opportunity to present their platforms and gain voter support leading up to the election.
