Waterloo Region, Guelph, Wellington County to Receive 50 cm Snowfall

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall watch for Waterloo Region, Guelph, and Wellington County. Residents should prepare for severe winter weather, with snowfall amounts expected to reach between 30 to 50 cm.
Snow Squalls and Travel Hazards
Snow squalls are forecast to begin Thursday morning and may persist into the weekend. During these conditions, visibility could drop to near zero at times. Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder advises, “Make sure you’re taking extra precautions if you’re heading out on the roads.”
Travel could become hazardous, with some routes potentially becoming impassable. Road closures may also occur as the snow accumulates.
Wind Conditions
In addition to heavy snowfall, a special weather statement has been issued for dangerous wind conditions. Winds could reach speeds of up to 80 km/h in the affected areas.
- Winds will shift from southwest to the northwest Thursday afternoon or evening.
- Strong winds may throw loose objects and cause localized power outages.
- Wind speeds are expected to diminish by Friday.
