Kevin Stefanski Visits Bernie Kosar Post-Liver Transplant in Hospital
Kevin Stefanski, the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, recently visited former player Bernie Kosar at University Hospitals. Kosar is recovering after undergoing a liver transplant on Monday. Following a Friday practice session, Stefanski made the trip to show his support.
Bernie Kosar’s Recovery Journey
In a heartfelt social media post, Kosar shared a photo with Stefanski, expressing gratitude and noting the encouragement from fans, referred to as the Dawg Pound. He wrote, “Coach Kevin visited me today, and even from this hospital bed, I felt the whole Dawg Pound cheering me on.”
Stefanski’s Support
The visit came shortly after Stefanski communicated with Kosar the evening before the transplant. He emphasized how the team is united in supporting Kosar during this challenging time. “We’re thinking about Bernie as he’s going through his medical situation here,” Stefanski said during a video conference.
Kosar’s Health Challenges
At 61, Kosar faced significant health issues prior to the transplant, including multiple surgeries due to internal bleeding. Despite the severity of his condition, he remained hopeful. “I never believed I’d pass. I just didn’t,” he stated, attributing his survival to faith and the support of the Browns organization.
Gratitude Towards the Browns’ Ownership
Kosar expressed deep appreciation for the Browns’ ownership, particularly Jimmy and Dee Haslam, along with their family. He acknowledged their long-standing support, which included covering his medical insurance. “I would not be alive without them,” he said.
Helping Others Heal
Looking ahead, Kosar is eager to assist others in their healing journeys. He reflected on his past head injuries and pain but now feels a renewed sense of purpose. As he prepares to celebrate his 62nd birthday, Kosar is grateful for the second chance at life.
In Memory of Bryce Dunlap
Kosar also asked for prayers for the family of Bryce Dunlap, a 21-year-old organ donor, who passed away recently. Dunlap’s gift has provided Kosar with renewed hope as he approaches Thanksgiving.
