TMD Issues Cold Weather Alert in Upper Thailand, Warns of Southern Downpours

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a cold weather alert for upper Thailand. A strong high-pressure system from China is currently impacting the region, leading to cool and cold conditions.

Weather Conditions Across Thailand

The northern and northeastern parts of the country are experiencing notably colder temperatures. Residents in these areas should take precautions with their health as the dry conditions prevail. In addition, the Central region, which includes Bangkok and its surrounding areas, is also expected to have cool mornings.

Health and Safety Precautions

  • People are advised to dress warmly.
  • Be cautious of fire hazards in dry weather.
  • Agricultural workers must protect their crops from adverse weather effects.

Southern Rainfall and Sea Conditions

While the upper regions face cold weather, the southern areas of Thailand are experiencing a strong northeast monsoon. A low-pressure system affecting the lower south has led to scattered heavy rain, with some regions experiencing isolated very heavy rainfall.

Wave and Sailing Conditions

Winds are likely to strengthen waves in the Gulf of Thailand. Wave heights can reach between 2 to 3 meters and may exceed 3 meters during thunderstorms. In the upper Andaman Sea, waves are around 2 meters but could increase to 2 to 3 meters offshore, especially during thundershowers.

  • All vessels should exercise caution at sea.
  • Small boats are advised to stay ashore until weather conditions improve.

The TMD underscores the importance of safety measures for both residents and maritime activities during this period of varied weather patterns across Thailand.
