DeMar DeRozan Criticizes Kings Over Struggles: ‘In a Tough Spot’

Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan expressed deep frustration regarding his team’s poor performance, stating they are in a “tough spot” emotionally. The Kings have suffered a disappointing 3-13 record so far this season, including an eighth consecutive loss in a recent game against the Memphis Grizzlies, where they fell 137-96.
DeRozan’s Concerns About the Team’s Performance
Following the heavy defeat, DeRozan voiced his concerns. “Don’t nobody want to lose the way we’ve been losing,” he remarked. The loss marked the third time the Kings had lost by over 30 points during their current losing streak. DeRozan further stated, “I think it’s just everything right now for us is just s–tty.” He emphasized the difficulty of staying positive amid such overwhelming challenges.
Player Contributions and Statistics
In the game against Memphis, DeRozan played only 15 minutes and 22 seconds, recording seven points and two assists on 2-for-3 shooting. His teammate, Zach LaVine, also struggled, hitting 4 of 10 attempts and scoring eight points without making a three-pointer. Unfortunately, the current dynamics are not favorable, as the Kings’ net rating plummets to minus-21.6 when both DeRozan and LaVine are on the court, as per NBA.com statistics.
Injuries and Challenges Ahead
- Domantas Sabonis is out for at least a month due to a partial tear in his left knee meniscus.
- The Kings’ upcoming tilt against the Denver Nuggets is a key opportunity to rebound.
DeRozan and LaVine, who together earn over $72 million this season—representing approximately 46.7% of the Kings’ salary cap—must elevate their game to help revitalize the team’s fortunes. Turning around the Kings’ season will require not only better individual performances but also collective effort on both ends of the court.
