Barika Kpeenu’s Drive: Fueling His Success at Bison Game Day

Barika Kpeenu, a senior running back for North Dakota State University (NDSU), has showcased an impressive journey from high school to collegiate athletics. Raised in North Dakota, his path reflects both personal commitment and familial support, especially from his parents, Prince and Endurance Kpeenu, who immigrated from Nigeria.
Growing Up in North Dakota
Kpeenu emerged as a standout player at West Fargo Sheyenne High School. His parents’ sacrifices greatly motivate him, highlighting the importance of family in his life. “I just want to make my folks proud because they’ve done so much for me,” Kpeenu mentioned.
Senior Day Recognition
This year, Kpeenu is one of 16 players celebrating Senior Day. The event underscores his contribution to the Bison football program, alongside teammates such as Truman Werremeyer, a fullback from Fargo Davies.
Football Career at NDSU
Kpeenu joined NDSU in 2021, originally weighing 199 pounds. Today, he has transformed into a robust 213-pound athlete known for his tough running style.

- 2023: Rushed for 843 yards and 17 touchdowns
His current performance places him fifth in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) for touchdowns. Overall, he has been a vital asset, featuring in all games this season except for two.
