BALTIMORE, Md. — In a thrilling matchup, Howard University volleyball triumphed over No. 6 UMES with a score of 3–2. The victory was essential for the Bison as it secures their spot in the MEAC Championship match for the third consecutive year. With this win, Howard improves its record to 18–10 overall.

The match, held at PEC Arena, featured a tightly contested five sets, concluding with scores of 25–15, 25–21, 25–27, 18–25, and 15–8.

  • McKinnon: Contributed 14 kills and 12 digs, marking her seventh double-double of the season.

Match Breakdown

Howard started the match strong, coming back from an initial deficit to claim the first set decisively. Graduate outside hitter Aziah Buckner initiated a comeback with two aces, helping to shift the momentum.

The second set saw Howard build an early lead once again. Despite UMES trying to rally back, Howard’s consistent offensive efforts secured them the set.

In a rollercoaster third set, both teams exchanged points vigorously. Howard reached a set point at 24-23, but UMES’s resilience allowed them to take the set 27-25.

The fourth set was dominated by UMES, who established a lead that Howard could not overcome. This led to a fifth and final set amidst growing tension.

In the decisive fifth set, Howard came out aggressively, quickly taking a 5–0 lead. They maintained control and finished strong, ultimately claiming the set 15–8.
