Auburn’s QB Knight to Start First Game Against Mercer

Auburn University has announced that freshman quarterback Deuce Knight will make his debut as a starter against Mercer this Saturday. This decision came from interim coach DJ Durkin, following the announcement that Ashton Daniels would sit out the game to preserve his eligibility.

Details of Knight’s First Start

Interim coach DJ Durkin expressed confidence in Knight, stating, “He’s earned it. He’s done a great job, and we’re excited to see him go play.” Knight has had limited action this season but managed to gain experience recently. He played briefly in a game against Ball State, completing 2 of 5 passes for 20 yards and adding 16 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Rotation

Although Knight is set to lead the team on Saturday, Jackson Arnold, who has played in nine games this season, will also see action. Arnold has thrown for 1,278 yards, with six touchdowns and two interceptions.

Upcoming Rivalry Game

Ashton Daniels is expected to return to the starting position next week. The Tigers will face off against their rivals, No. 10 Alabama, in the highly anticipated Iron Bowl.

Coach’s Assurance

  • Both Knight and Arnold are prepared to perform.
  • Durkin confirmed that “They’re both going to play in the game, and they’re both going to play well.”
  • A solid game plan is in place for both quarterbacks.

Auburn looks forward to Knight’s first career game against Mercer, marking an important moment in his young football journey.
