Intrusion on Brossard REM Tracks Leaves One Dead, Two Critically Injured

Tragedy struck in Brossard as a pedestrian was killed and two others critically injured after being struck by a train on the REM tracks. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Saturday near the Du Quartier station.

Authorities from the Sûreté du Québec reported that one of the surviving individuals, a 22-year-old, remains in critical condition. The second survivor, also a 19-year-old, has since stabilized and is out of danger.

Witnesses indicate the three pedestrians attempted to cross the tracks despite an approaching train. This led to what authorities categorize as an intrusion onto the tracks.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Emergency services were deployed to the scene and remained there throughout the morning. The Sûreté du Québec is spearheading the investigation, with support from Longueuil police.
Carole Du Sault, a spokesperson for REM operator Pulsar, stated that they are collaborating closely with first responders to address the situation. She emphasized that the collision involved “a train and people on the tracks near Du Quartier station.”
Service Interruptions
As a result of the incident, train services between Brossard and Panama stations have been suspended. Buses are currently replacing trains in this affected section. However, service continues as usual between Panama and Deux-Montagnes.
The affected section will only reopen once police provide clearance. In the meantime, Pulsar has reiterated the dangers of crossing REM tracks, urging the public to adhere to safety regulations. The right-of-way is fenced to prevent unauthorized access.
