Whistler Blackcomb Resort Launches Season’s First Ski Run

Ski enthusiasts can rejoice as Whistler Blackcomb Resort has initiated its ski season with the opening of the first ski run, Wishbone, located on Blackcomb Mountain. This development took place on Friday, welcoming skiers and snowboarders to enjoy the early season conditions.
Early Ski Season Developments at Whistler Blackcomb Resort
Senior Patrol Manager Adam Mercer emphasized that the resort plans to expand its terrain as conditions become favorable. However, he advised skiers to remain within the boundaries of the ski area, as venturing outside presents various hazards such as ditches, rocks, trees, and construction equipment.
Safety Measures and Considerations
- Keep an eye on surroundings to avoid accidents.
- Be mindful of other skiers on congested slopes.
- Understand the risks associated with off-piste skiing.
As only one run is currently open, Mercer has urged visitors to be cautious and courteous to others. With increased traffic on the slopes, maintaining awareness is crucial for safety.
Looking Ahead: Future Openings
Belinda Trembath, the Chief Operating Officer of the resort, expressed optimism about opening additional runs in the near future. “We hope to have more terrain available soon and to transition to Whistler Mountain as well,” Trembath stated.
60th Anniversary Celebration
Whistler Blackcomb Resort is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary in January 2026. This milestone will be marked with a parade, a fire and ice show, and a series of festive events throughout the season.
Other Nearby Ski Resorts Opening Soon
In the surrounding area, Cypress and Grouse Mountains are anticipated to open next Friday, with Mount Seymour scheduled for December 12. The impending openings signal an exciting start to the ski season across the region.
