Former Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Erik Swanson has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball (MLB), as revealed in an Instagram post on Thursday. The 32-year-old from Fargo, North Dakota, concludes his professional career having played in 246 games over seven seasons, representing both the Seattle Mariners and Blue Jays.

Swanson’s baseball journey began when he was selected in the eighth round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. His career took a significant turn in 2016 when he was traded to the New York Yankees. In 2019, he made his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners, participating in 27 games, including eight starts.

2022 marked a pinnacle in Swanson’s career. He achieved a remarkable 1.68 ERA over 57 games for the Mariners.
