Burrow Nears Return with Practice Inclusion

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is approaching a return to game action following a lengthy recovery from a turf toe injury. His participation in practice on Wednesday marked a significant step forward, as he was a full participant for the first time since suffering the injury on September 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Joe Burrow’s Practice Return
Burrow’s return to practice included participation in 11-on-11 drills, indicating a positive progression in his recovery. Currently, he is in a 21-day window that permits his practice involvement without being activated to the roster.
Coach’s Comments on Burrow’s Status
- Bengals coach Zac Taylor commented on Burrow’s potential return, emphasizing the need for further evaluation before any decisions are made.
- “Until we get through some practices, there’s no reason for me to even speculate on that,” Taylor stated.
Looking Ahead to the Patriots Matchup
Burrow has targeted Thanksgiving as a possible return date after missing seven consecutive games. His involvement could be influenced by the Bengals’ current record of 3-7, having lost seven of their last eight games, including a three-game losing streak. The Bengals are set to face the New England Patriots, who hold a record of 9-2 and are tied for the best in the AFC.
Burrow’s Mindset on Returning
Despite his eagerness to return, Burrow did not provide a specific timeline after practice. Coach Taylor confirmed that Burrow’s desire to play is strong, saying, “Right now, he’s of the mindset that he wants to play football for us.”
Joe Flacco’s Performance and Future
Meanwhile, Joe Flacco, who has started for the Bengals in Burrow’s absence, is grappling with a sprained right shoulder. The veteran quarterback has managed to play through the injury but has been limited in practice.
- Flacco, who has played for the Bengals since being acquired in a trade, has completed 63.4% of his passes over the last five games.
- He has thrown for 1,453 yards, with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions.
As Burrow’s return looms, Flacco’s role could change. He acknowledged the possibility that this might be his final start with Cincinnati under his current contract. “It’s in your head a little bit to a certain extent,” Flacco said about his uncertain future.
Overall, the coming days will reveal more regarding Burrow’s readiness to return and Flacco’s status as the team focuses on their upcoming home game against New England.
