NASA Unveils Stunning New Interstellar 3I/ATLAS Photos: Watch Live Today

NASA is set to unveil stunning new photos of the interstellar object known as 3I/ATLAS. This remarkable comet was first detected in July, marking a significant discovery as it is confirmed to have originated beyond Earth’s solar system. The upcoming release of high-resolution images will showcase this unique interstellar visitor, which has captured the attention of astronomers and the public alike.

NASA’s Live Event for 3I/ATLAS Photo Reveal

The live event is scheduled for November 19 at 3 p.m. ET, taking place at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. This event is anticipated to release never-before-seen images collected from various telescopes and spacecraft.

How to Watch the Live Stream

  • Streaming will be available via the NASA+ app.
  • Watch on YouTube and NASA’s official X account.
  • Accessible through Amazon Prime; however, Netflix will not be promoting this event.

What Is 3I/ATLAS?

3I/ATLAS, traveling at approximately 137,000 miles per hour, was initially reported by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS). This organization is responsible for detecting and monitoring new asteroids and comets.

The comet’s journey from the constellation Sagittarius has brought it into our solar system, making it only the third interstellar object identified nearby. Observations indicate that 3I/ATLAS formed in another star system and was propelled into interstellar space.

Upcoming Close Approach to Earth

3I/ATLAS is projected to make its closest approach to Earth on December 19, 2023. On this date, it will be approximately 170 million miles away, which is about twice the distance from Earth to the Sun. Earlier, it came within 19 million miles of Mars in early October and flew past the Sun, around 130 million miles away, on October 30.

This unique opportunity allows astronomers to study a visitor from another stellar neighborhood and increases interest in objects that drift through our solar system.
