SRL Appoints First Deputy Editor-in-Chief

Allison Bent, the Editor-in-Chief of Seismological Research Letters (SRL), has appointed Hongfeng Yang as the journal’s inaugural deputy editor-in-chief. Yang, a distinguished professor in Earth and Environmental Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, will assume his new role on December 1, 2023.

Hongfeng Yang’s Background and Experience

Yang joined the SRL editorial board as an associate editor in 2018. His previous editorial experience includes serving as the editor for Earthquake Science and as an associate editor for Earthquake Research Advances. He has also been a member of the editorial boards of notable journals such as Tectonophysics and Earth and Planetary Physics.

Vision as Deputy Editor-in-Chief

Allison Bent expressed her enthusiasm for working closely with Yang in his new position. She noted his dedication and innovative ideas that could facilitate SRL’s growth. “His role will be pivotal in shaping future deputy editor positions,” Bent commented.

Professional Affiliations and Academic Credentials

Yang holds memberships in several professional organizations, including the American Geophysical Union and the Chinese Geophysical Society. He was elected as the Solid Earth Section President-elect for the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society and serves on the executive board of the Seismological Society of China.

He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in geophysics at the University of Science and Technology of China in 2000 and 2004, respectively. Yang earned his Ph.D. in seismology from Saint Louis University in 2010.

With his extensive background and commitment, Yang is poised to significantly impact Seismological Research Letters as the first deputy editor-in-chief.
