TikTok Empowers Users to Control AI-Generated Content Visibility

TikTok is introducing new features to enhance user control over AI-generated content visibility. This initiative allows users to customize their “For You” feed through settings in the app. The enhancements aim to give users the flexibility of choosing what type of content they wish to see.
TikTok’s New AI-Generated Content Control
The latest feature enables users to adjust the amount of AI-generated content they encounter. This option is part of TikTok’s “Manage Topics” tool, already utilized for categorizing content across various interests such as Dance, Sports, and Food & Drinks.
Enhanced User Experience
- Users can tailor their content preferences.
- The AIGC settings help customize the diversity of content in their feeds.
- The change aims not to eliminate content but to enhance personalization.
Users looking to exercise this control can do so by navigating to Settings, choosing “Content Preferences,” and accessing the “Manage Topics” section. Here, a slider allows for adjustments relevant to different topics, including AI-generated content, enabling users to determine their exposure level.
Keeping Up with Industry Trends
This initiative from TikTok emerges amidst a growing trend of companies like OpenAI and Meta developing AI-centric platforms. In September, Meta unveiled its Vibes, a new feed for AI-generated video sharing. Shortly after, OpenAI launched Sora, which focuses on creating and sharing AI-driven videos.
Improved Labeling Technology
In addition to user control, TikTok is enhancing its labeling technologies for AI content. The platform is testing “invisible watermarking,” which provides a more reliable way to identify AI-generated videos. This technology will be applied to content created with TikTok tools as well as to uploads that include C2PA’s Content Credentials.
- Invisible watermarks add a layer of security, preventing easy removal.
- Content Credential technology embeds metadata in AI-generated media for better identification.
TikTok also aims to bolster AI literacy through a $2 million funding initiative. This program will support organizations, including the nonprofit Girls Who Code, in their efforts to educate users about AI and ensure safe practices online.
With these updates rolled out over the coming weeks, TikTok positions itself as a leader in integrating AI technology while prioritizing user preferences and safety.
