Mandatory $300 Motorcycle Courses Implemented for Riders

A new regulation in Belize mandates that all motorcycle riders complete a two-week training course, effective January 1. This course will cost approximately $300 and aims to enhance road safety by equipping riders with essential skills.

Transport Minister Dr. Louis Zabaneh announced this initiative as part of a broader effort to reduce accidents on the roads. The goal is to ensure that all motorcycle license holders are well-trained and capable of operating their vehicles safely.

Initially, the proposal called for a six-week training period. However, the government decided on a two-week course based on cost considerations and the practices of other jurisdictions, which typically require training of four to six weeks.
Importance of Training
Dr. Zabaneh emphasized that the certified curriculum will give riders the necessary skills to navigate safely. This regulation is a significant step toward making Belize’s roads safer for both motorcycle riders and other road users.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by the government to prioritize road safety, addressing concerns over motorcycle-related accidents. With a two-year implementation period, the new regulation allows sufficient time for all current and new riders to comply.
