Steelers Announce Inactive Players for Week 11 Against Bengals

The Pittsburgh Steelers face another challenge as key players are inactive for their Week 11 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. This week, the team will be without cornerback Darius Slay and linebackers Alex Highsmith and Cole Holcomb, who were ruled out on Friday.

Inactive Players for Week 11 Against Bengals

  • Darius Slay – Cornerback (concussion protocol)
  • Alex Highsmith – Linebacker (pectorals injury)
  • Cole Holcomb – Linebacker (illness)

Slay remains in concussion protocol after exiting last Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. His absence has prompted defensive coordinator Teryl Austin to turn to several backup players, including James Pierre. Austin praised Pierre’s professionalism and development since joining the Steelers as an undrafted rookie in 2020.

James Pierre’s Role

James Pierre, who has faced challenges in his early career, is ready to step up. “I think it’s good to see that with him,” Austin noted. “It’s a lesson for young players that hard work can change your trajectory.” Pierre emphasized the importance of maintaining focus each week. “Just week to week,” he said. “You’ve got to get right.”

Head coach Mike Tomlin has also recognized Pierre’s consistent performance throughout the season. He highlighted Pierre’s growth and professionalism which has made him a reliable asset for the team.

Additional Adjustments

Given the injuries to Highsmith and Holcomb, cornerback Brandin Echols may see increased playing time. Echols stated he will maintain his routine and focus on performing his best, regardless of the circumstances.

Highsmith’s injury has been particularly frustrating for him. He expressed disappointment over the recurrence of injuries this season, despite his commitment to physical fitness and recovery.

Recent Elevations from Practice Squad

The Steelers have elevated two players from their practice squad for this matchup:

  • D’Shawn Jamison – Defensive Back
  • Mark Robinson – Linebacker

Jamison was previously signed to a Reserve/Future contract at the end of the 2024 season and spent training camp with the team in 2025. He originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Robinson joined the practice squad in November and has spent time on both the active roster and practice squad since being drafted in 2022.

As the Steelers prepare for the Bengals, the adjustments to their lineup will be crucial in maintaining their defensive performance. With several key players ruled out, teamwork and preparation will be of utmost importance.
