Portos e Aeroportos Drives Maritime Transport Decarbonization at COP30
The Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) has unveiled initiatives aimed at reducing pollution emissions in maritime transport. These measures were introduced by Minister Silvio Costa Filho during the COP30 conference held in Belém.
New Initiatives for Maritime Decarbonization
These initiatives are part of MPor’s Sustainability Policy, launched earlier this year. The objective is to decarbonize the transport sector while establishing low-carbon logistics and fostering Brazil’s economic development.
Public Consultation for Sustainable Vessels
During the event, the ministry also initiated a public consultation for the Sustainable Vessels Ordinance. This ordinance sets forth ecological criteria for the certification of cabotage vessels.
- Encourages the use of low-carbon fuels.
- Promotes labor conditions in the sector.
- Supports social inclusion and environmental respect.
Panel Discussion on Sustainable Logistics
Minister Costa Filho also participated in a panel entitled “Green and Innovative Corridors: Sustainable Connections for the Future.” This session included representatives from various governments and international organizations.
Strategies discussed focused on creating sustainable logistical routes by utilizing technological innovations and clean fuels. These discussions are pivotal for the future of sustainable maritime transport.
Through these efforts, the Brazilian government aims to lead the charge toward a more sustainable maritime transport strategy, contributing significantly to environmental preservation and economic growth.
