Pack Fire Rages Uncontained, Burns 3,400 Acres, Evacuations Partially Lifted

The Pack Fire in Mono County has become a significant concern as it continues to spread uncontrollably. Currently, it has engulfed approximately 3,400 acres. This wildfire has prompted mandatory evacuations for communities, including Crowley Lake and McGee Creek, as officials urge residents to evacuate immediately due to the threatening nature of the flames.
Evacuation Updates and Community Safety
As of 8 p.m., residents of Crowley Lake began to be escorted back home. The evacuation order was reduced to a warning. Access to Crowley Lake is restricted to South Landing Road with only escorted entries allowed from Highway 395.
- Communities still under mandatory evacuation include Long Valley and McGee Creek.
- Evacuation warnings are active for Aspen Springs, Hilton Creek, Convict Lake, and Sunny Slopes.
- Benton Crossing Road has reopened for vehicle traffic.

The Mono County Office of Emergency Management has declared a local emergency. This declaration enables quicker mobilization of resources to safeguard life and property. All residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow official instructions. Evacuation centers have been established at:
- Mammoth Lakes Middle School, Meridian Boulevard, Mammoth Lakes.
- Tri-County Fairgrounds, 475 Sierra St., Bishop.
Animal Evacuations and Assistance
The Whitmore Animal Shelter is also being evacuated. A temporary animal shelter is located at the Tri-County Fairgrounds to assist pet owners. Mono County Animal Control has provided support for pet evacuations and can supply necessary resources such as:

Fire Activity and Containment Status
Despite the efforts of firefighting teams, the Pack Fire remains zero percent contained. Weather conditions have allowed fire crews to work continuously, with additional resources scheduled for deployment. Rainfall has contributed to reducing fire activity, providing some relief to ground forces.
Ongoing Road Closures
Highway 395 is currently closed in both directions between Benton Crossing Road and Rock Creek Road. Travelers from Inyo County to northern Mono County or Nevada should utilize U.S. Highway 6 in Bishop as a detour. The cause of the Pack Fire is still under investigation.
