Zach Edey Nearing Return After Ankle Surgery for Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies are anticipating the return of center Zach Edey, who is nearing recovery following ankle surgery. Recently upgraded to doubtful, Edey might play in the upcoming game against the Boston Celtics on November 12 at TD Garden.
Zach Edey’s Injury and Recovery Timeline
Zach Edey underwent an ankle procedure in June after experiencing three ankle sprains during his rookie NBA season. The Grizzlies expected him to be sidelined for six to nine weeks, as announced on September 26.
As part of his recovery, Edey has increased his practice intensity with the Grizzlies and has been training with the G League Memphis Hustle. His participation on this current road trip indicates progress in his recovery, with a possible return on November 15 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Impact of Edey’s Return
- Improved Team Performance: Edey’s presence is crucial for enhancing both offensive and defensive rebounds.
- Feedback from Teammates: Guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope expressed optimism about Edey’s return, noting the advantage of having another big body on the court.
- Player Development: Under interim coach Tuomas Iisalo, Edey showed significant improvement, averaging 9.3 points and 13.4 rebounds in his last eight games.
In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Grizzlies selected Edey ninth overall. During his debut season, he played 66 games and started in 55, averaging 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds in about 21.5 minutes per game.
As the Grizzlies move forward in the season, the potential return of Zach Edey offers a promising boost to their lineup, positioning them better for upcoming challenges.
