Purdue Athletics Enhances Fan Safety with Innovative OPENGATE Tech

Purdue Athletics is set to enhance fan safety by installing OPENGATE entry systems across its venues. This innovative technology aims to improve security and streamline entry for attendees on the athletics campus in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Features of OPENGATE Technology
OPENGATE simplifies the entry process, reducing the need for manual bag searches. Fans will walk through two detection pillars that automatically screen bags, purses, and personal items. Should additional screening be required, security personnel will conduct manual checks for safety purposes.
Implementation Schedule
The rollout of OPENGATE will occur in phases across various athletic venues. The implementation schedule is as follows:
- Holloway Gymnasium: All entrances starting Friday, Nov. 14
- Mackey Arena: All entrances starting Sunday, Nov. 16
- Ross-Ade Stadium: Student entrances starting Friday, Nov. 28; full implementation by the 2026 season
- Alexander Field and Bittinger Stadium: Full implementation by March 2026
- Folk Field: Full implementation by Fall 2026
Current Policies Remain in Effect
While OPENGATE enhances security measures, the existing clear bag policy at Purdue Athletics events will remain in place. Fans are encouraged to review the clear bag policy for further details.
