Green Lit Initiative’s Short Films Premiering on BBC One NI and iPlayer

Three compelling short films produced under the Green Lit Initiative are set to premiere on BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer. These films will be available from Wednesday, 26 November, starting at 10:40 PM.

The Green Lit Initiative is a partnership between BBC Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen. This scheme focuses on fostering emerging talent in various fields, including writing, production, directing, and acting across Northern Ireland.

Featured Short Films

  • Rewarding

    Produced by Conker Pictures, “Rewarding” is a story that navigates the complexities of working in a rural domiciliary care facility. The film stars Seána Kerslake as Sinead and Vittorio Angelone as Francis. Their differing perspectives on caregiving are challenged when a client faces adversity on his birthday.

  • Helpless

    Directed by Oisín Kearney, “Helpless” is a black comedy thriller from FABEL Productions. It features George Robinson as Cillian, a newly disabled romantic who becomes suspicious of his neighbor’s boyfriend. This gripping tale explores themes of love and prejudice while showcasing a unique cast that includes Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Éanna Hardwicke.

  • Mourning Glory

    “Mourning Glory,” produced by Fíbín Films NI, stars Nigel O’Neill as a widower who finds solace in attending random funerals. As he navigates his grief with the help of his neighbor Jimmy and a new funeral director played by Amy Huberman, the film offers a humorous take on mourning in rural Northern Ireland.

Broadcast Details

The films will air sequentially on BBC One NI, starting with “Rewarding” at 10:40 PM, followed by “Helpless” at 11:00 PM, and concluding with “Mourning Glory” at 11:20 PM.

Growth of Emerging Talent

The Green Lit Initiative, launched in December 2024, supports independent production companies by providing funds for project development. Out of initially selected proposals, three films have reached the production stage, showcasing the vibrancy and creativity of Northern Ireland’s film industry.

These premieres mark an exciting opportunity for local filmmakers and audiences alike to engage with compelling narratives and innovative storytelling.
