Norwich City Engages Gary O’Neil in Managerial Discussions

Norwich City is actively seeking a new manager following the dismissal of Liam Manning. The club has initiated discussions with several candidates, including Gary O’Neil, Will Still, and Jon Dahl Tomasson. O’Neil, who played for Norwich from 2014 to 2016, met with club representatives earlier this week as part of their recruitment efforts.

Managerial Search Begins After Manning’s Exit

Liam Manning was terminated from his position on Saturday after Norwich suffered a late 2-1 defeat to Leicester City. This loss marked a troubling start to their season, with the team currently sitting 23rd in the Championship. The Canaries have managed only one win in their first eight home games at Carrow Road.

Contenders for the Managerial Role

  • Gary O’Neil: Former Norwich player and manager who has been out of work since leaving Wolves in December 2022.
  • Will Still: Recently dismissed from Southampton, Still is known for his innovative coaching style, having previously led teams in France.
  • Jon Dahl Tomasson: Former Blackburn Rovers manager with significant Championship experience, who recently left his role as Sweden’s national team head coach.

Tomasson’s past at Blackburn saw him lead the team to a respectable seventh-place finish in the previous season, while Still’s reputation has been bolstered by his tenure at Reims and Lens in France.

O’Neil’s History with Norwich

Gary O’Neil had a successful playing career at Norwich, making 55 appearances and contributing to the team’s promotion to the Premier League in 2015. After being overlooked for the managerial position last summer in favor of Manning, the club has remained in contact with him.

As the search progresses, it remains notable that O’Neil declined interest in a potential return to Molineux last week. Meanwhile, Wolves are reportedly set to appoint Rob Edwards, who has been managing Middlesbrough.

Norwich City strives to find a suitable candidate to revitalize their campaign in the Championship. The club aims to bounce back and challenge for promotion in the coming seasons.
