LINC Supports KC Childcare Program’s Inspiring Rise to Success

The recent opening of Christina Puckett’s new childcare facility, Kids in Christ Academy, has brought joy to many families in Kansas City. This center is located at 39th and Troost Avenue, strategically situated along a key bus line for easy access. Parents have voiced their excitement, with returning and new families eager to experience the beautiful space.
LINC’s Role in Kids in Christ Academy’s Success
The journey to establishing this new location began in 1989 when Puckett embarked on her childcare career. After starting her own businesses in 2007, Puckett’s passion for nurturing children became the cornerstone of her work. In 2020, she began collaborating with LINC’s early childhood program support team, which played a crucial role in enhancing her educational program.
Puckett expressed her gratitude for LINC’s support, especially during challenging times like the pandemic. “You stuck with me through the pandemic. And here we are,” she said, commending the organization for its assistance and resources. The partnership with LINC began in 2019 when the organization reached out to local childcare centers, offering public-funded opportunities to improve services.
Training and Development
Before relocating to the new site, Puckett and her staff took part in extensive training programs provided by LINC. These training sessions included:
- Classroom management techniques
- Child supervision strategies
- Engaging lesson and activity design
- Working with children with special behavioral needs
- Safety enhancements for learning spaces
Puckett expressed the significant impact of LINC’s resources in restructuring their classrooms, which included acquiring better furniture and creating safe, inviting learning environments.
Growth and Community Impact
The Kansas City Area Transit Authority opened a request for proposals earlier this year for childcare centers. Kids in Christ Academy successfully bid on the program at the 39th and Troost Transit Center, leading to an expansion that will now serve more families. Puckett is enthusiastic about this growth opportunity, emphasizing the importance of accessible care for local families.
The LINC team has worked diligently alongside Puckett’s center, positively impacting the community. In 2024 alone, LINC supported seven childcare centers, serving over 416 children. This initiative involved more than 500 visits and collaborations with 117 teachers across the region.
Creating Safe and Engaging Spaces
During recent visits, LINC representatives observed how well students thrived in the bright, clean classrooms filled with educational materials. The spacious outdoor courtyard provides a secure area for play and exploration. Puckett’s dedicated staff, many of whom have been with her for years, contribute significantly to the welcoming atmosphere.
Looking Ahead
As Puckett reflects on the journey with LINC, she remains optimistic about the future. “I’m glad LINC was able to give me resources and support,” she noted. This partnership exemplifies how community collaboration can enhance childcare services, ultimately fostering a happier and safer environment for children.
Puckett considers the LINC team a part of her family, and both organizations remain committed to nurturing the next generation in Kansas City.
