Texas A&M’s Position in Latest College Football Playoff Rankings Revealed

In the latest College Football Playoff rankings, Texas A&M University holds the impressive position of No. 3. This ranking was announced by the selection committee, placing the Aggies behind Ohio State at No. 1 and Indiana at No. 2. As a result, Texas A&M remains the top team in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Texas A&M’s Playoff Prospects

If the playoffs started today, Texas A&M would receive a first-round bye, advancing automatically to the second round. Their potential opponents would be Texas Tech or Miami.

Current Season Overview

  • Record: 9 wins, 0 losses (9-0), 6-0 in the SEC
  • Next Game: Scheduled against South Carolina (3-6, 1-6 SEC) this Saturday
  • Previous Game: Defeated Missouri 38-17 in Week 11

Following the matchup with the Gamecocks, the Aggies will host Samford in Week 13. They will conclude their regular season with a critical game against the Texas Longhorns in Austin.

Understanding the 12-Team Playoff Format

The new 12-team College Football Playoff (CFP) format allocates five automatic bids to the highest-ranked conference champions. The next seven highest-ranked teams will fill the remaining slots, which includes at least one Group of Five program.

In this format, teams ranked Nos. 1-4 receive first-round byes. In the inaugural year of the expanded playoffs in 2024, the top four conference champions will get a bye, regardless of their overall ranking. Teams seeded Nos. 5-12 are required to compete in the first round, hosted by the higher-seeded teams.
