Hug Clinches Seventh New York Marathon Win; Debrunner and Schär Shine

Marcel Hug secured a remarkable victory at the New York City Marathon, marking his seventh title in the event. The accomplished wheelchair athlete from Thurgau, known for his previous wins in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2022, completed the race in an impressive time of 1:30:16 hours. British racer David Weir finished in second place, lagging almost four minutes behind Hug.

Hug’s Dominant Performance

Before the race, Hug expressed his clear goal of winning in New York. He took the lead immediately after the start and maintained it throughout the race. At 39 years old, this victory was particularly significant for Hug, especially following a fall he experienced last year.

Women’s Wheelchair Race Highlights

In the women’s division, American athlete Susannah Scaroni dominated the competition. Swiss competitor Catherine Debrunner finished in a close third place, with a time of 1:47:56 hours. Debrunner narrowly missed out on second, falling just two seconds behind Tatyana McFadden in a thrilling finale.
