Rep. Nancy Mace Criticizes Charleston Airport Police for Escort Dispute, Report Reveals

Rep. Nancy Mace has come under fire following an incident involving Charleston International Airport’s police. According to a police report, Mace was upset with the officers assigned to escort her on Thursday morning, allegedly using abusive language towards them.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place on Thursday, around 6:30 a.m. Officers from the Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department were set to meet Mace at the curb for her flight. She was expected to arrive in a white BMW. However, around 6:35 a.m., officers were informed she was running late and continued to wait.
At approximately 6:50 a.m., surveillance footage showed Mace arriving in a dark-colored sedan, contrary to the earlier information. Shortly after, at 7 a.m., the officers were notified that she was at the Known Crewmember program entrance. This entrance is designated for trusted access by flight crew members and overseen by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Mace’s Reaction
When officers arrived to escort her, they reported that Mace began to loudly curse and make derogatory remarks. She allegedly referred to them as “incompetent” multiple times, stating, “this is no way to treat a US Representative.” The officers noted that she expressed discontent over being treated differently than other officials, such as U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.
Witnesses, including airline staff and TSA agents, described being shocked by her behavior throughout the incident, which continued even as she walked to her gate. According to the officers, if any other individual had acted in a similar manner, they would have dispatched a response team to intervene.
Mace’s Response
On social media, Rep. Mace appeared to defend herself, sharing the surveillance footage of her arrival. She emphasized that the entrance she used is common for all members of Congress, questioning why similar treatment afforded to Senators Graham and Scott was not mentioned.
Security Concerns
Following the incident, Cameron Morabito, Mace’s director of operations, made a statement expressing concern for her safety. He referenced rising threats against Mace, notably after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Morabito asserted that their security protocols stem from serious safety considerations, cautioning against politicizing the issue.
