Royal Marines Abseil into Waterloo for Poppy Day Tribute

In a remarkable display of honor and remembrance, Royal Marines abseiled into Waterloo Station as part of the launch for The Royal British Legion’s (RBL) London Poppy Appeal. This significant event marked the 19th annual “Poppy Day” in London, which seeks to pay tribute to those who served in the armed forces.
London Poppy Appeal’s Fundraising Goals
On a Thursday in November, around 3,000 active service members engaged in one of the largest one-day street collections in Europe. Their aim this year is to raise £1 million for the Poppy Appeal, which is essential for providing support to veterans and their families.
Activities and Participation
- Military bands performed at major train stations to entertain commuters.
- Rob Rinder participated in the collection, emphasizing the importance of the poppy.
Rinder shared his thoughts on the symbol of the poppy, stating, “The poppy isn’t just a symbol of remembrance; it’s a sign of gratitude and unity.” He highlighted that it serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom and the collective responsibility to care for veterans.
This year’s collection not only honors the memory of service members but also reinforces the community’s commitment to those who have served their country. The collaborative efforts are pivotal in ensuring the longevity of support for veterans through the Royal British Legion.
