Suspected Hitman Jailed in Cartagena for Allegedly Killing Woman

A suspected hitman, identified as Juan Daniel Vertel Londoño, known by the alias “Manin,” has been arrested in Cartagena for allegedly killing a 47-year-old woman. The incident occurred on September 9, 2023, in the Nelson Mandela neighborhood. The woman was shot during a public gathering where she was watching a soccer match with others.
Details of the Incident
According to authorities, Londoño and an accomplice approached the group and opened fire without warning. The violent act left the victim critically injured.
Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries after spending several days in a medical facility. In addition, a 13-year-old girl, who is the victim’s daughter, and a 50-year-old neighbor sustained injuries during the shooting.
Legal Proceedings
Following the shooting, the National Police captured Vertel Londoño on October 23, 2023, in the Antonio San José neighborhood of Sucre, Cartagena. The General Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged him with homicide, manufacturing, trafficking, possession, or carrying of firearms and ammunition, all classified as aggravated offenses. He also faces charges related to personal injuries.
As of now, the charges have not been accepted by the accused. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding violent crime in the area.
