Rep. Nancy Mace Criticizes Charleston Airport Police Over Missing Escort Incident

U.S. Representative Nancy Mace recently faced criticism for her behavior at Charleston International Airport. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, where Mace reportedly confronted airport police officers over a delayed escort to her flight.

Details of the Incident

According to the police report, Mace arrived at the airport around 6:50 a.m. in a dark gray sedan, despite being scheduled to be escorted from the curb to her flight. Originally set to arrive at 6:30 a.m. in a white BMW, Mace was reported to be running late by approximately 15 minutes.

Confrontation with Airport Police

  • Officers were notified at 6 a.m. to be ready for the escort.
  • Mace’s arrival time was delayed, causing confusion among the officers.
  • When officers met Mace, she was described as “very irate” and began cursing at them.

One officer documented her remarks, calling the officers “fking incompetent” and expressing that they would not treat a high-profile figure like Senator Tim Scott in the same manner.

Concerns for Safety

Mace’s Chief of Staff, Cameron Morabito, defended her actions. He stated that Mace’s safety is a top priority, especially following recent threats against her. The context of heightened security concerns was emphasized after the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

Aftermath of the Incident

Mace publicly expressed her frustrations, stating that her safety concerns were not being taken seriously. Witnesses, including TSA agents and airline employees, later voiced their shock at her conduct during the airport incident.

As the situation unfolded, the Charleston County Aviation Authority police noted that any other individual exhibiting similar behavior would have been addressed accordingly. In light of these events, Mace’s office has yet to release an official comment regarding the incident, although CNN has reached out for further clarification.
