Recent developments regarding Kieran Dowell have revealed significant changes in his professional career. The midfielder, previously at Rangers, is reportedly making a permanent move to Hull City.
Hull City Chairman Comments on Kieran Dowell’s Potential Departure
On Wednesday, Kieran Dowell’s exit from Rangers became evident when he was spotted clearing his locker at the Rangers Training Centre. His absence from training raised speculation about his future. Early reports suggested he was set to join an unnamed English club on loan.
However, Chris Jack of The Rangers Review soon confirmed Hull City as the destination. Contradicting initial reports, local journalists claimed the transfer is a permanent deal, not a temporary loan as first thought. Hull City chairman Acun Ilıcalı has since provided clarity on this situation.
Confirmation of Permanent Transfer
Ilıcalı took to social media to address rumors regarding the transfer structure. In response to a post discussing multiple loan signings, he noted, “1 loan 2 permanent, we did our magic.” This implies that only one of the reported signings is a loan, which aligns with Dowell’s expected permanent arrival.
- Loan Players: Only one signing is a loan.
- Permanent Signings: Two, including Kieran Dowell.
As Hull City is currently allowed to sign only loan players and free transfers, Dowell’s move avoids a transfer fee. This suits both clubs, allowing Hull to add the midfielder without financial strain while Rangers part ways with a player whose contract expires this summer.
Kieran Dowell’s Career at Rangers
Kieran Dowell joined Rangers in 2023 from Norwich City, signing under manager Michael Beale. Despite early promise, injuries and stiff competition hampered his success. Over his tenure, he made 39 appearances, netting three goals and providing three assists. His final contribution for Rangers was a goal in the team’s 5–0 Scottish Cup victory over Annan Athletic.
In Hull, Dowell will reunite with former teammate John Lundstram as the Tigers aim for promotion to the English Premier League. This move signifies a fresh start for Dowell as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.
While official confirmations from both Hull City and Rangers are pending, Ilıcalı’s statements imply that Kieran Dowell’s future is secured away from Ibrox.
