Jannik Sinner Excluded from Italy’s Davis Cup Squad; Alcaraz Joins Spain

In a significant development for the upcoming Davis Cup Finals, Jannik Sinner will not represent Italy in 2025. This decision comes despite his contributions to Italy’s victories in the previous years, specifically in 2023 and 2024.

Captain’s Statement on Sinner’s Absence

Filippo Volandri, the captain of the Italian Davis Cup team, expressed confidence that Sinner would return in the future. “The Davis Cup is and will always remain his home,” Volandri stated to the Italian press.

Italy’s 2025 Davis Cup Squad

In Sinner’s absence, Italy’s squad will include:

  • Lorenzo Musetti
  • Flavio Cobolli
  • Matteo Berrettini

The doubles team features top pair Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli. Sinner’s representative indicated that he is forgoing the event to prepare adequately for the Australian Open, marking the start of his 2026 season.

Significance of Extra Preparation

Sinner revealed that even a week can be crucial for his preparation. He stated, “The objective after Turin (the ATP Tour Finals) is to start again for 2026 on the right foot with Australia.” This decision allows him nearly two months off before resuming competition.

Spain will field its world No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz, at the Davis Cup Finals starting November 18 in Bologna, Italy. He will be joined by:
