Joel Embiid Set for Sixers Opener Against Celtics; Paul George Sidelined

Joel Embiid is set to make his season debut for the Philadelphia 76ers against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. This highly anticipated matchup will take place at TD Garden.

Embiid’s Return to Action

This game marks Embiid’s first regular-season appearance since facing the Brooklyn Nets on February 22. In that match, the Sixers suffered a narrow defeat, losing 105-103. Last season, he managed to play only 19 games due to health issues.

Following complications, Embiid underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on April 11, marking the second procedure on this knee in a span of 14 months. Notably, this was his third surgery on the knee in nine years.

Preseason Performance

In preparation for the upcoming season, Embiid participated in the final preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He showcased his skills by scoring 14 points, along with seven rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in just over 18 minutes of play.

Having completed practices on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, Embiid has received medical clearance to play in the opener.

Celtics’ Injury Updates

The Boston Celtics will face challenges as key players remain sidelined. Paul George continues to recover from left knee surgery. In addition, Trendon Watford is out due to tightness in his left hamstring, and Jared McCain is recovering from surgery on his right thumb.

Boston’s star player, Jaylen Brown, is questionable for the game. He is dealing with a strained left hamstring. Furthermore, Jayson Tatum is expected to miss the entire season due to a torn right Achilles tendon sustained during the playoffs.

Conclusion

This season opener carries significant implications for both the 76ers and the Celtics. As Joel Embiid returns to the court, fans eagerly await his performance and impact on the game. Meanwhile, the injury challenges faced by Boston may test their roster depth early in the season.
