Utah Jazz Constructs New Practice Facility at South Town Shops

The Utah Jazz are expanding their presence in Sandy, Utah, by constructing a new practice facility at The Shops of South Town. This state-of-the-art building will feature amenities similar to practices seen in elite sports organizations worldwide.
New Practice Facility Overview
In a recent announcement flanked by players and coaches, Ryan and Ashley Smith, owners of the Jazz and the Mammoth, revealed their plans for the facility. “There’s really not a facility like this with the room to spread out,” stated Ryan Smith. He highlighted his experience visiting Real Madrid’s facilities, noting that this new development aims to create a world-class environment for the players and community alike.
Facility Features
The upcoming practice facility will include:
- Two basketball courts
- Locker rooms
- Training and working spaces
- Additional amenities for player relaxation and community use
Austin Ainge, the president of the Jazz, mentioned plans for a space where players across different sports can connect. “It will be a place for basketball players and hockey players to hang out and enjoy activities like ping pong,” he said.
Construction Timeline
Construction is set to commence this fall, with the new facility being located next to the Mammoth’s existing practice space on the east side of the mall. While the Mammoth’s facility was completed in 13 months, the Jazz’s project is expected to take about two years to finalize.
Community Impact
Ryan Smith indicated that this development is just the beginning. “Our phone is ringing off the hook,” he stated, hinting at further projects and community initiatives in the area. This facility will serve as a gathering point, not only for the teams but also for local programs like Junior Jazz, enhancing the overall sports culture in Sandy.
The Utah Jazz are committed to building a vibrant and accessible community space, reflecting their dedication to both sports excellence and community engagement.
