HBO Max Increases Subscription Prices for Third Consecutive Year

HBO Max is raising its subscription prices for the third consecutive year, impacting various plans. This increase comes shortly after a statement from CEO David Zaslav, who described HBO Max as “way underpriced.”
New Subscription Rates Effective Immediately
Starting now, the following changes will take place for HBO Max subscription plans:
- Basic with Ads: Monthly price increases from $9.99 to $10.99. Annual price rises by $10, from $99.99 to $109.99.
- Standard (Ad-Free): Monthly fees jump from $16.99 to $18.49. Annual fees switch from $169.99 to $184.99.
- Premium (4K Streaming): Monthly charges will now be $22.99, up from $20.99. The annual cost will increase from $169.99 to $184.99.
- Bundle with Disney Plus and Hulu: Monthly price for the ad-supported package rises from $16.99 to $19.99. The mostly ad-free subscription will increase from $29.99 to $32.99.
Rationale Behind the Price Increase
David Zaslav emphasized the value of HBO Max’s quality content during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology Conference. He indicated that this quality warranted a price increase.
Implementation of New Prices
The new rates apply immediately for new customers. Existing subscribers will see these changes reflected in their bills starting November 20th.
As HBO Max continues to enhance its offerings, these price adjustments highlight its strategy to align pricing with perceived value in the competitive streaming market.
