Jets WR Wilson Misses First NFL Game Against Panthers Due to Knee Injury

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson will miss his first NFL game due to a knee injury. This announcement comes as the Jets prepare to face the Carolina Panthers. Wilson, who was listed as doubtful earlier in the week, did not practice at all before the game.
Injury Details and Impact
Wilson suffered his injury during last week’s close match against the Denver Broncos, where the Jets lost with a score of 13-11. While the Jets have not disclosed specifics about the injury, reports indicate that he is dealing with a hyperextended knee. Fortunately, it appears that he has avoided a severe injury.
This season, Wilson has emerged as the Jets’ leading receiver, recording 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns. He has also made his mark in franchise history, ranking 10th on the Jets’ career list with a total of 315 receptions.
Team Adjustments Without Wilson
With Wilson sidelined, the Jets face a challenge in their receiving corps. Josh Reynolds is expected to take over as the primary receiver, supported by teammates Allen Lazard, Tyler Johnson, Isaiah Williams, and rookie Arian Smith.
The Jets have several other players on their inactive list, including:
- Tight end Jelani Woods
- Offensive tackle Esa Pole
- Defensive lineman Tyler Baron
- Linebacker Cam Jones
- Cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Qwan’tez Stiggers
Panthers to Strengthen Roster
On the other side, the Carolina Panthers will see the return of Jalen Coker, who is set to make his season debut after nursing a quadriceps injury. Coker had a notable rookie season last year, making 32 catches for 478 yards and scoring two touchdowns. The Panthers have also activated veteran offensive lineman Austin Corbett from injured reserve, who is expected to play after recovering from a left knee injury.
This game will mark the sixth starting lineup for the Panthers in the last seven weeks, with Corbett stepping in for starting left guard Damien Lewis, who is out due to a shoulder injury sustained in practice.
Other Inactive Players for the Panthers
In addition to Lewis, the Panthers listed several other players as inactive:
- Wide receiver Hunter Renfrow
- Running back DeeJay Dallas
- Tight end James Mitchell
- Defensive tackles Cam Jackson and Jaden Crumedy
Defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton returns to action after missing two games with a toe injury, providing a boost to Carolina’s defensive front.
