Columbus Marathon to Cause Rolling Road Closures Over 26 Miles This Weekend

Columbus will host the 2025 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Marathon this weekend, drawing thousands of runners. This popular event will lead to significant road closures and disruptions in the city. The marathon weekend will cause rolling road closures over a span of 26 miles.

Marathon Schedule and Road Closures

Road restrictions and closures in downtown Columbus and the Arena District will begin on October 17 and last through October 19. Specific streets will be affected leading up to the marathon on the 19th.

Closure Details by Date

  • October 17:
    • Long Street will close from Hocking Street to Neil Avenue at 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on October 19. Limited access will be available on October 18 from 5-7 p.m. for event arrivals.
    • Spring Street between West Street and Neil Avenue will close at 11:59 p.m. until 6 p.m. on October 19.
    • Hanover and Cozzins Streets will close at 11:59 p.m. for local traffic only until 6 p.m. on October 19.
    • West Street from Nationwide to Marconi boulevards will close starting at 11:59 p.m. until 6 p.m. on October 19.
  • October 18:
    • Spring Street from Neil Avenue to Hocking Street will close at 11:59 p.m. until 6 p.m. on October 19.
    • Neil Avenue south from Nationwide Boulevard will reduce to one lane starting at 11:59 p.m. for condo traffic only until 6 p.m. on October 19.

Impact on Public Transportation

Public transportation will also face challenges during the marathon. COTA has announced significant bus route changes on October 19.

  • Seventeen bus lines, including Lines 1-12 and 22, will be rerouted throughout the morning and early afternoon.
  • Most downtown transit stops will close starting at 4 a.m., with over 800 stops affected along the race route.
  • The main transit transfer point will be at Spring and Long Streets near Fourth Street, with COTA’s changes expected to conclude in the mid-afternoon.

The Columbus Marathon showcases the spirit of the city while also presenting logistical challenges. Residents and visitors should plan their routes accordingly to navigate these rolling road closures over the weekend.
