Panthers’ Coker Set for Season Debut Against Jets

Wide receiver Jalen Coker is set to make his season debut for the Carolina Panthers as they face the New York Jets this Sunday at the Meadowlands. Coker, who has been sidelined for the first six games due to a hamstring injury, was positioned to step into the roster after Adam Thielen’s trade to the Minnesota Vikings.

Coker Ready to Contribute

Panthers head coach Dave Canales praised Coker’s preparation, stating, “He had a great week.” This weekend marks an important moment for Coker, adding depth to the receiving corps as he joins Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette in the lineup.

Running Back Situation

In addition to Coker’s return, running back Chuba Hubbard is also cleared to play after fully participating in Friday’s practice. Hubbard had previously stated his intention to play and is looking forward to contributing against the Jets.

Team Decision on Running Backs

The coaching staff has decided on a starting running back between Rico Dowdle and Hubbard, though Coach Canales has not disclosed this information publicly. Dowdle has been impressive, achieving a record 473 scrimmage yards over the last two games, contributing to victories against the Miami Dolphins and the Dallas Cowboys. He participated fully in practice throughout the week, while Hubbard was limited during the early part of the week.

Injury Concerns on the Offensive Line

The Panthers are aiming for their third consecutive win, a feat not accomplished since the start of the 2021 season. However, they face challenges with two starting offensive linemen potentially missing the game. Right tackle Taylor Moton, who missed the previous game due to an elbow injury, practiced fully on Friday but is listed as questionable. Additionally, guard Damien Lewis, dealing with a chest and shoulder injury, has not practiced for several days but will travel to New Jersey and is also questionable for the game.
