Myers Departs ESPN to Join Harris-Led Sports Group

Bob Myers, the former general manager of the Golden State Warriors, is leaving ESPN to join Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) as president of sports. This strategic move allows him to engage with multiple top leagues worldwide.
Bob Myers Takes on a New Role at HBSE
Myers will be responsible for enhancing opportunities and streamlining processes within the HBSE portfolio. This includes notable franchises such as:
- Philadelphia 76ers (NBA)
- New Jersey Devils (NHL)
- Crystal Palace F.C. (English Premier League)
- Joe Gibbs Racing (NASCAR)
Additionally, he will continue supporting Josh Harris, managing partner of the Washington Commanders, to maintain the team’s competitive edge.
Executive Structure and Impact
Despite Myers’ new role, there will be no significant changes in the reporting structures of the HBSE teams. Presidents of basketball and hockey operations will still report directly to their respective ownership groups. Myers’ extensive experience in leadership will enhance HBSE’s executive capabilities, fostering collaboration with ownership and senior leaders.
Myers’ Impressive Background
Over his 12-year tenure with the Warriors, Myers achieved significant success, leading the team to four NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. He earned the NBA Executive of the Year accolades in 2015 and 2017. Transitioning from a sports agent to front office executive, he initially joined the Warriors in 2011.
After stepping down from his position in 2023, he joined ESPN as a basketball analyst, participating in pre- and postgame coverage.
Myers’ Vision for the Future
In his new role, Myers expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with talented leaders across various sports leagues. He aims to leverage HBSE’s worldwide presence to create competitive advantages for teams and athletes. Myers remarked, “This opportunity is a challenge I have been seeking, and I appreciate Josh and David for bringing me into HBSE.”
He also expressed gratitude to his colleagues at ESPN, recognizing the value of his time there as he embarks on this new chapter.
