Runners Begin 45th Annual Royal Victoria Marathon This Sunday Morning

The 45th Annual Royal Victoria Marathon (RVM) is set to take place this Sunday morning, marking a grand milestone in the event’s history. This year, the marathon is expected to attract over 15,000 participants, a record-breaking number exceeding last year’s turnout by more than 3,000 runners.

The marathon weekend kicked off with race package pickups on Friday. Participants can look forward to a variety of events, including:

  • 8K Race
  • 5K Race
  • Kids Run

All events are sold out, highlighting the marathon’s appeal to local and visiting athletes alike.

Charitable Contributions

This year’s event also features a noteworthy charitable component. A total of 21 charities are participating in the CHEK charity pledge program. They have exceeded their fundraising goal, raising $150,000, surpassing their initial target of $125,000.

Race organizer Mandy Parker expressed her enthusiasm for the success of the charity efforts, noting that contributions continue to grow.

Traffic and Broadcast Information

Participants and spectators should anticipate traffic delays and road closures in downtown Victoria and the Dallas Road area. The Victoria Police Department advises drivers to plan accordingly to avoid congestion.

The marathon festivities will culminate in a special broadcast. CHEK will air a 30-minute recap of the event on Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. Hosted by Jeff King, the special will include highlights and interviews, allowing viewers to share in the marathon experience from home.
