Alia Bhatt Sets Record for Most Best Actress Filmfare Awards Wins

At the 70th Filmfare Awards, held recently, Alia Bhatt made history by winning her sixth Best Actress award. This achievement sets a new record for the most wins in this category, surpassing the previous record of five held by both Kajol and Nutan.

Alia Bhatt’s Landmark Achievement

Alia Bhatt’s latest victory was for her performance in the film Jigra. This win marks her third consecutive Best Actress award, highlighting her remarkable trajectory in the film industry. Before Jigra, she earned accolades for her roles in:

  • Udta Punjab
  • Raazi
  • Gully Boy
  • Gangubai Kathiawadi
  • Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Record-Breaking Wins

The record for the most Best Actress wins was previously held by icons such as Meena Kumari, Nutan, and Kajol. Meena Kumari originally captured this title in 1966 and was later surpassed by Nutan in 1979. Kajol equaled the record with her win for My Name Is Khan in 2011.

Other notable actresses like Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit have won four Best Actress awards, while Vyjayanthimala, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi each hold three wins.

Public Reaction

  • “They received so much backlash for giving her the award back-to-back.”
  • “Alia’s career does not resonate with iconic actors like Waheeda Rahman and Sridevi.”

Critics also highlighted that while Alia has achieved great success, her comparison with legends like Shah Rukh Khan and Dilip Kumar, who are widely recognized for their talent, is contentious.

About Jigra

Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala, features Alia as a sister trying to save her brother from death row. While the film received largely positive reviews, it struggled at the box office, grossing ₹55 crore against its ₹80 crore budget.

Looking Ahead

Following her win for Jigra, Alia Bhatt is set to appear in the forthcoming YRF Spy Universe film and the much-anticipated Love & War directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Her continued presence in high-profile projects will keep her in the public eye as discussions about her record-breaking wins continue.
